Default F250 "bad" BCM

Hello, I have a 2011 F250 6.2 with 175000 miles on it. It has a large power drain (it will kil the battery over night) and I have been told it has a bad BCM otherwise known as a Door Lock And Alarm Module. A new one is absurdly expensive and I am loathed to spend that much. This leads me to my question. Is the "bad" module physically malfunctioning or is it software? How would I tell? I have ordered a USB OBD connector and will purchase a FORScan license. If It is software can I flash the as built to it and correct the issue? Question Number 2, IF I buy a used BCM that has a different part number (for whatever reason the part number on mine is scarce) can I flash the as built for my truck to the "new" bcm and it operate correctly? I have not done this type of work before so I would appreciate any help any of you would be willing to provide.
