Default f250 fi HEADS to carb

Is it true that 1988 460 FI heads will not except a carb intake? Edelbrock says no. They do not make an intake that fits FI heads. I dont get it. Will I have to make an adapter and plug the squirter holes? Is there anyone out there that builds an intake for this conversion?

I've said this a million times the reason why they don't make the intakes and heads that interchange like that is cause year model changes with stricter smog laws now with in mind you might try coupling an older 460 with your trans. and make sure you don't have too much pressure coming from your fuel tank

first thing first ! before you can think about changing the intake over to a carburetor you have to make sure there,s a place to bolt up a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine because an electrical pump puts out too much pressure for a carburetor !

Thanks for the input guys. Well, I found out that the FI intake is a dual plane style which is a good start. I also found a guy that will make an adpater for the intake that will let me put a square bore carb on the FI intake. All thats left is plugging the squirter holes and to find a hei distributor, fuel pressure regulator that can tone down the high pressure from the in tank pump. Next question is how will this affect the electronics in the truck. Speedo, tach, and so on. Any ideas?

After that if you have an E4OD trans that will be your next problem.

Default FI to carb

I would not have attempted any of this if the truck had an automatic in it. It has the ZF 5 speed and an adapted NP205 TC. I wonder about the tach and the speedo most. Regular gauges (volts, oil pressure, fuel and temp) can be swapped out no problem.

you say your going to use a regulator for the carburetor? it,s not just the fuel pressure you have to worry about but also the volume too ! the regulator has to be able to put out the right amount of pressure and volume or it won,t run right ! sounds like it would be cheaper and easier to change the motor !

your pcm computer mar not feed your coilthe juice it needs to fire the plugs. therefore you may have better luck changing the trucks wiring harness and doing away with the computer all the way around
