Default F250 shifts out of od and can't turn it back on

I have a 93 f250 7.3 e4od that when working correctly is a work horse. But while driving down the highway at 65mph it will at no certain time jump out of overdrive downshifting very hard. I can stop the truck reset the overdrive and drive another 5-10 miles and it will jump out again at this point it pulls very hard and mpg goes out the window for sure. If anyone can provide an explanation i'll appreciate it.

Just a suggestion, it might require that you trace the wires from the OD button on the shift handle and see if something is causing it to shift out of OD.
Also will need to look for possible mechanical causes.

Default f250 shifts out of overdrive.

thanks for the reply. about 3 months ago the truck was put in the shop because i was told it was an electronic issue with these particular tranny setups. they did find a chaffed wire going to the harness under the column but got it fixed. at the same time the speedo stopped working so i had a new cluster installed. it worked okay for about 2 days and begin the original problem shifting again. I can't drive the truck without wondering if i'm going to make it to were i'm going without it shifting out. any more ideas on where to look next..... could it be a computer glitch?
