Hey Gary,

Thanks for the reply.

Its a 2003 f250 5.4 L 4X4 --- I picked up a flexplate from Advance auto the other day, but its from China and I don't really like any metal products from China. I called Ford and the parts guy has one for about $40 more but he can't tell me where its manufactured. He said Ford subs out all their parts too so it could come from any country.

Any suggestions where I can get a reasonably priced good american made plate ?

Thanks

Anyone still following my thread ?

I have my tranny pulled today and the new flaxplate isn't the right one. The guys says my tranny is a e40d --- not a 4r100 --- does that sound right ? I read that the e40d was out in the late 90's and replaced by the 4r100 ???

F250SUPERDUTYDUDE...my main point in choosing FORD parts,is getting the right part based upon your VIN#,and assurance of a quality part manufactured for or by FORD.While I think some aftermarket parts are OK,I've always felt that internal transmission and engine parts are best replaced with OEM parts, warrantied and made for your application.
I had the E4OD transmission in my '94 F250,and never had serious trouble with it.It's my understanding that it evolved form the C6...which is legendary.I'm just not up on the 2003 tranny, but would not be surprisede if it were an E4OD.The only problem I had with mine was related to what I believe was poor electrical connections affecting the shifting points.Aside from that it was very good.
Do a search on what you've got,but I'll bet your shop knows what's what..
I hope this helps a little...Gar

It's a 4R100,, E4 was long gone in 03, although the 4R is a reworked/redesign of the E4..

I've found that www.silverstateforparts.com usually has the best price on OEM FORD parts. They're in Nevada,so shipping is also a factor...

Hey Hayapower,

The guy says it a e40d. The Advance auto says they have a 03 f250 7.3 disel listed with the E40D tranny. I dont know if this truck was diesel at some point or what. But he said theres a tag on it e40d.

Thanks Gary !! He's bringing it down to me now so hopefully all is well. He said no problems.

the bottom of the transmiision oil pan should have a big embossed stamp 'E4OD'..that's what my '94 F250 had.By the way,I've got a new E4OD filter I've never used...your's if you want it.

Just got the truck back --- everything seems fine. Guy did it for half of what most of the shops wanted, plus he did some extra stuff at no charge --- new starter bolts and a freeze plug.

Thanks to everyone who replied !!

How long did it take him to do it? I have a 2001 f150 and the flexplate went out yesterday. I am trying to figure out about how much time hourly it will be. One so I can determine how much it will cost me to fix it and two so I can see if it will be done same day since they are closed the next 2 days

4R100 was a renamed E4OD with some build/revision changes. E4 was not used in gas or diesel for your model year.. 1999 on was 4R100 (03 6.0 was a 5R110) although technically still a E4OD..The correct unit ID in 03 is 4R100.
The 4R had speed sensors installed on the top F&R of the trans case E4 did not. Swapping a 4R into an E4 application ok with some changes (like swapping a CD player for cassette but going the other way E4-4R would certainly generate some issues just from the 'missing' speed inputs to the PCM.. CEL.

O3 was a split year for diesel.. 7.3 got the 4R100,, 6.0 got the 5R110
