Default Superduty tailgate open fault

My 2024 F350 thinks my tailgate is open all of the time, therefore when I back up, the rear parking sensors are disabled. The tailgate dash light stays on constantly. It was intermittent at first, but I’m not able to do anything to clear it.

I am not familiar with the setup to know if it’s a sensor or physical switch.

Any help or troubleshooting advice is greatly appreciated. I’ve tried searching YouTube but either I’ve chosen the wrong wording, or there’s no video covering the topic.

Thanks a lot!

There are sensors in the motor and latching assy..
A good start would include a thorough visual inspection of all the wiring and connections.
If the signals can't get through, the system doesn't know the gate is closed..
Disconnect and reconnect any plugs to insure good contact is possible.

Thanks for the direction!

update: the rain stopped and the tailgate has had a chance to dry out, and the issue is gone. I suspect this could be caused by rain. I will verify that over the next few days while we are out of town. I’ll dig into the wiring and connections when I get home.

Update:

Not 100% sure of this, but after opening the tailgate and inspecting the connections, it appears the Coax connector was either not fully making connection or by unplugging and reconnecting, it improved the connection. In either case, I have had no more issues.

The upcoming test may by when rains return and the tailgate gets wet.

I will update as necessary.
