water problem with TPS
Hi all, We have a wet weather issue on a 2016 F250. During wet weather this truck loses throttle control. It remains running but at reduced power, which obviously is an issue on the highway. The owner stops and disconnects the battery for a few minutes and then gets underway again. Until the next episode. We have changed the TPS and a vacuum pump on this 460 CID, and he has had the pedal sensor replaced. Neither of these had any effect on the issue BUT, we had dry weather after these items were replaced. From the outset, I told him it was a wiring issue. Now a year later, we are back at it. I still say wiring. What say you good folks and if you've ever heard of this as a pattern failure or is this a one-off issue? Thanks!
The "TPS" as you see it ,is the result. The object is to determine the root cause.
It may be appearing on start up or when driven a bit, and disconnecting the battery erases the vehicle from having been placed in limp mode.
There could be a few reasons for this and the better way to find it would be to monitor the operating parameters when the vehicle is first driven.
A capable scan tool would have "Freeze Frame Capability "capturing the conditions at the time the problem appeared to be examined for a fault or faults.
This is one of those times a "Silver Bullet" may not be available to say it is definitely this or that.
Insuring the seal between the hood and engine compartment might prevent the particular area from becomig wet.
