Unhappy Why am I forced to trash my 500!?!? DELETE EGR?

2007 Ford 500 SEL, 300k miles.
RUNS LIKE A CHAMP Except.... the exhaust is "too dirty" and setting off sensors giving me the engine light followed by limp mode shortly after.
I've replaced the EGR, checked for any hindrance in the pipe between the EGR and engine (it's clean), put new spark plugs in and cleaned the manifold when I did it.
New Throttle body.
I work with many mechanics and here's what I BELIEVE is going on.
I was told there are numerous sensors that read the "cleanliness" of the exhaust and a couple are IN the transmission.
A Ford dealership told me I needed a new $3500 transmission! I did mentioned that the car runs great until the engine light comes on.

CAN I DELETE all this exhaust sensing stuff?
I'm all for a green world but how is putting this sedan in a unk yard and buying a new car more "green" than continuing to drive it?
VIN # 1FAHP27197G116054

Any thoughts would be welcome.

When originally delivered the engine ran well and clean without problems. The object is to find somebody that understands how everything is supposed to work and can determine when something is wrong, find the cause and FIX it. Altering things just puts a band aid on the problem.

Maybe some help,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,there are many sensors on the vehicle. They help control performance and emissions. There are sensors in and on the trans also , but they are to control performance. (shift scheduling etc.)

Places like Autozone will check your vehicle for any trouble codes free of charge. If you can post the codes here, we should be able to offer some helpful suggestions..
Also, suggest you post the codes BEFORE buying any parts !

Default Thank you for the reply - here are some of the codes.

Thanks Hanky. I feel like I have you in my pocket!

I understand and respect the job of the sensors but once the vehicle hits a certain age it would seem fair to let it run a little dirtier.
Slightly lessened performance is better than no performance (jeeeze, am I talking about myself or this car...)

I can afford another car, I'm just trying to see if there's a way I can legally and safely keep this one on the road.

In case the photo doesn't appear here are some of the codes I get.
-P0961
-U0401
-P0174
-P0171
-P1000
-P0871

Your P0108 MAP sensor code could be setting the Lean Codes P0171 and P0174. Since you replaced the EGR, could be a faulty sensor or wiring. Do you feel comfortable performing the Tests for that code? You would need a multimeter and Scanner that can show PIDs. I can post them for you. Also check the connections for the MAP and EGR, make sure their not damaged and fully connected.

For the transmission there is a Note (see below) in the diagnostics. "NOTE: Prior to entering pinpoint tests, the vehicle harness must be checked for continuity and shorts, and the powertrain control module (PCM), engine control module (ECM), DEM module and other modules and non-transmission sensors may affect transmission operations must be checked for any concerns. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for diagnosis and testing of the PCM concerns. Repair all non-transmission component and module concerns first.

NOTE: If any non-transmission repair codes appear, repair those codes first. They could affect the electrical operation of the transmission. Record and erase codes from continuous memory after repairs have been carried out. After repairing any fault codes in the Quick Test, the Quick Test should be repeated."
