2004 Escape Oil Pan Leak 11 months
Hi All,
I have an 04 4WD Escape with just over 100K miles on it. I have been dealing with leaks from the oil pan since NOVEMBER.
My mechanic replaced the PAN at least three times. Obviously, always replaced gasket. Sometimes with RTV. Sometimes not. He has tried every product and combination of none and lots. Doesn't matter. Always leaks within 70 miles of getting it back. The leak accumulates on the back three rows of the pan. Mostly towards driver's side. He days it is not the RMS.
Any ideas. The folks on Escaoncity.com have tried to help. But nothing is working.
Thoughts?

If it was just an ordinary leak, typical fixes usually work.
Since this is not an "Ordinary" leak, it will require some investigation.
Now what could cause a leak in this area or contribute to pushing motor oil out through that area.
One thing that comes to mind is the PCV system. If the crankcase becomes pressurized, the oil could go out the weakest spot.
How carefully was the engine casting checked for any possible crack . Sometimes we clean the area , then spray talcum powder all around it and watch for oil to appear.
Of course there is always the possibility of oil leaking from above the area, then running down behind things making it appear the leak is much lower down.
Lets see what other suggestions come up, OK ?
Depending on what engine, oil pressure sensors are sometimes back there and not easily seen, and they can leak too..
