I'm looking to replace my C4 with a AOD from a previous mustang I owned. What kind of installation issues will I be looking at? Not gonna assume this is gonna be just a straight swap.....that'd be too easy, right?
Any help will be much appreciated.

 

You didn't mention the engine you have in your Falcon. The issues I see are the bell housing likely won't match, the drive shaft length would be different, a C4 is vacuum controlled with a modulator, the AOD has a TV linkage meaning also a carb change, gear shift linkage is different, the mount is different, new cooler lines needed and I am sure I missed some things.Depending on your rear end ratio, having overdrive could make your Falcon a bogging dog.

Both are good solid transmissions. To me, I don't see any gain by changing transmissions and the change if possible will hurt the value and performance of your Falcon.

 

I'm running a mildly built 302, and will be changing the rear gear to a 3.50 soon. It has a ford 9" rear.

 

I would not attempt to make the change. There's no gain.

 

Having once owned a 64 Falcon , was one of the best vehicles ever owned.
It never failed to start and had beautiful steering without power assist.
It did have one drawback, and that was the in line six had problems with compression blowing out the old road draft tube.
Back then I added a can of "Motor honey" and all that did was to hang curtains inside the engine that I saw after dropping the oil pan. Never use that so called sure cure !!
It was an overall good vehicle just as it was. Well built and reliable.

 

Kind off topic, but my sisters old boyfriend in the late 60's had a Falcon with a 427 in it. Narrowed rear, fatty slicks, tube front end. First, and only car Id been a passenger doing wheel stands in! Fast as hell too!
