Default AX4N transmission stuck in 2nd

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable, 3.0 Duratec DOHC, AX4N Metric transmission with 76,XXX original miles. Six months ago I dropped the transmission pan, changed the filter, added Lucas Oil 24 oz. Transmission Fix, and MerconV fluid until full. I did not notice much difference in the way the transmission has operated since then. Last week I drove the vehicle 5 miles to a destination in the city. Three hours later driving home the transmission was stuck in second gear. Reverse works and it can be manually shifted from first to second. The Service Engine light is not illuminated. I am not sure what to do next.

Not all problems will illuminate the check engine lamp.
Might be a good idea to have the vehicle checked for any codes.

Suggest you have someone with a capable scan tool to verify shift solenoid condition and function.
Could be solenoid, missing signal, stuck 2-3 shift valve.in valve body.
Good scan tool can eliminate the first 2 items.
