Default "New Starter" not engaging flywheel.

TLDR. New refurbished starter just spins when cranked.

I had "and still have" a no start no crank on a 95 7.3 f250. The truck has been sitting 5ish years and I got it running with a new battery. The 3rd time I went to crank it up it turned over very slow and then stopped altogether with just clicking at the starter solenoid. Took the starter in to get checked. It failed the bench test and was in very poor "rusted" condition.

Bought a refurbished one. Installed. Now just a drill sound when I tried to crank it earlier. Ideas? Not seized as I can turn the crank shaft with 5/16 and breaker.

grateful for any information

You mean, new batteries? Or one was just replaced?

Rebuilt from some Japanese starter. Bought at oreily. Noticed some minor chips in the pinion before install.
