Thank You!

Hi
I am new to the forum. My handle is intact but the rear lift gate won't open. It looks like something is jammed. Is there a way to open it from inside or some other tip.
Thank you

manismani,
Welcome to the board. I'm not sure if this will help, but you can try. There is a small 1" x 1" access hole near the inside handle. Pop the cover off and try to locate a white plastic lever in there. Try to move the lever to the left with a screwdriver. You could also look to see if there is a cable attached to the lever. If you don't see the cable, then it probably broke or disconnected. In that case, I'm not sure what the best solution is.

For manismani - I just resolved this problem on my 2005 Freestar. I also had a latch that would not release but was intact. I attempted to release using the "emergency" release via the small access panel but this failed. I ended up having to remove the inner trim panels from the rear hatch which is a bit of trick with the door closed as they are meant to be removed with it open. You first have to remove the upper panel by carefully pulling the upper part away from the top of the door just enough to get your hand in and then slide you hand along until you find the push in tabs. Pop them out one by one and the upper panel with come off. Take it slow and easy so as not to break the tabs - I think there were 8 in total. Now comes the fun part getting the lower panel off. Remove the two small bolts that hold the internal handle on the right side of the panel, then remove the one philips screw on the lower left side. Now as for the upper panel, pull the top of the panel backa bit and start finding the push in tabs along the sides. Once you have them out you have to pull in the top centre of the panel to bend it out a bit so the panel will come off the door and away from the side panels. You may also find that there is an internal sound piece glued to the door and panel which may or may not come out without ripping. Not a big deal. You will now have full access to the latch and probably find like I did that the mechanism for the release is badly rusted and stuck. You can pry it gently with a screw driver to release and the door will inlock and then open/close properly but will not lock again. At this point you open the hatch, undo the the 3 torx screws that hold the latch in place, disconnect the electrical plugs, take out the unit and throw it as far as possible!!!!! The you go to your local friendly Ford dealer, get another, install it and bingo it's fixed!!!! By the way, the panels go back on in the reverse order of removal as we British car guys say ................good luck!
Please send said schematics.
We had the same thing happen to our 2006 & really don't want to spend the money to fix it right before a family vacation.

Well...it seemed as though the handle was working harder than usual the last few months....but the van is a 2006 and it's honestly the first problem we've had with it. Today...as we were leaving a campground, it came off in my husband's hand! Can someone please e-mail me the fix? We do have extended warranty, but I don't know if it's covered, and to try and get it in during the week before a holiday (and yet another camping trip!) not going to be easy. If it's something I can do myself, I'd much rather!
Thanks!
Terri
