2005 Freestar Airbag Lamp Code 10-2 Help!!!
Make sure steering wheel is lined up straight.
Disconnect battery, wait 15 minutes.
Pry open the little plastic "door" under the steering wheel crosspiece. Undo the 2 plastic wiring connectors. Then, to the get steering wheel off, use a socket on the tall hex nut. But it is geared at a high ratio, so you will have to turn it 100-150 or more turns to get the wheel off. So, after breaking it free with a ratchet, use a cordless drill with a nut driver to turn it. As you pull the wheel away, you will have to get the 2 plastic wiring connectors through the opening to get the wheel free. After wheel is off, do not allow the clockspring under the wheel to change position.
Turn wheel over, on a towel so you don't scratch the face of the airbag. There are 4 black metal bars/clips which push or twist (can't remember exactly) to release the airbag from the wheel. After getting it away enough to see between the airbag and the wheel, you would normally see the ground wire from the airbag connected to the wheel with a spade connector. But it in your case, hopefully it is disconnected, so you just need to push it back on the spade terminal and replace the wheel.
If your cruise control buttons are not working, now is a good time to take them apart and clean the electrical contacts of oxidation. Use toothpaste and alcohol on the round contacts on the circuit board and the membrane.
