I have an 09 fusion v6. 170k miles
A weird problem started popping up that is SUPER inconsistent and hard to replicate. It's kind of difficult to describe as well.
The car has died a several times while driving, mostly within the first couple miles of driving. and, more curiously, would not start at random points as well. The two dont seem to be connected.
It cranks just fine, but won't turn over. But only periodically.
At first, i thought it was the battery, but no, current test came back good, battery is only 4 years old.
Then i thought it was somthing electrical, but when it dies, everything accessory is still working (radio, lights, etc.)
Then i moved to the fuel system. Checked pump first, as this model doenst have a fuel filter, that was good. Then checked the rail pressure, that was good.
Moved on to ignition, spark plugs are all good, ignition is good....
Then I read somthing on the interlock system could potentially do something if the fob is somehow sending bad signals due to a bad battery in the fob, it could lock the car as it's driving, and shut down ignition, preventing theft i guess. Wasnt that.
I'm thinking it could still be something with fuel. As only once, last month, as i was driving, it started faltering like it was out of gas, then "caught" itself and with a clunk like it found a new gear, came back to life, and continued on normally.
It's VERY intermittent, and it happened 3 times within a week last month. Now its been starting and driving perfectly the last few weeks. and today, it started doing it again. I am at my wits end, and don't have the funds top go to a shop.
I am new to this forum and any help would be greatful.
Can you tell us what method you used to check the fuel pressure?
A little side note, just because the accessories worked when it quit running, only tells us it is not a main power supply problem, but still could be an electrical supply problem to components involving either the fuel system or ign system..
Sometimes we need to set up a visual set up so we can see if power is being lost thru a questionable ign sw assy. We do not replace anything until we VERIFY a part is either defective or malfunctioning.

My dad went and rented a fuel rail pressure checker from AutoZone. We then looked up the proper pressure for this car, and it fell within spec.
Understood and that makes sense. Any advice on what to look for in that respect?
I can maybe try to record a video. Or something. But, the ignition switch works just fine from what I can tell. It starts cranking the engine but it just doesn't turn over.
If I understand you correctly, the starter does crank the engine over , but it will not start running.
If this is where we are, you might consider trying the following,
After attempting to start the engine and it will not start running, remove a spark plug or two and see if they are wet or dry.
If dry, we know fuel is not getting into the combustion chamber and pursue one path, If wet, we go in a different direction. We need to know which direction to go .
Can you help us out with that info? ,thanks.
Also: Get the trouble codes. Autozone will read them for you if you don't have a code reader. I use an inexpensive (Cen-Tech by Harbour Freight). Write down the codes, both actual and impending ones. That can lead us the right direction.
When the situation re-occurs you may try with somebody's help and wiggle wiring harnesses around the engine. Theis can help in pinpointing an intermittent contact.

I am new to this forum and any help would be greatful. Issues with the 2009 Fusion model such as the WEIRD issue may be an unexpected issue. Tampering with electronics can be a challenging experience for owners. However, improper care or insufficient maintenance of a regular or hunting vehicle can also “ruin” it. Article https://www.agmglobalvision.com/how-...ur-hunting-car can tell you how you can ruin a car, everything is detailed in it! Careless handling or lack of regular maintenance can lead to unexpected breakdowns and deterioration in the performance of the car during a hunt.
If you want to do this, you should have another person drive the vehicle.
Hook up the fuel pressure tester and take the vehicle for a drive and watch the fuel pressure.
If the pressure drops and the engine quits running in that order ,you have verified a fuel supply problem which now you can forward that info and we could suggest things to check.
