Default Bridgestone DriveGuard Issue

I have had Bridgestone DriveGuard tires on my 2014 Fusion for a little over a year and really like them. I just noticed my tire sidewall has blown out. The car was driving fine and no warning from TPMS. Is this a manufacturer's defect? Pot hole damage?

If the dark spot on the rim is some type of damage it would suggest contact with something that damaged the tire and rim.

Does look like some rim rash.
Also looks like a sidewall puncture to the right of the blowout area. Unless it’s part of the sidewall failure.
