Default oil changes with synthetic oil

I just got my wife a new 2013 Fusion 2.0 and I am preparing for oil changes in the future.

Would synthetic be best compared of conventional oil? What is the difference?

How often will you be able to change synthetic oil?

If using synthetic oil, will the computer know that you are using it and alert you to change the oil at a later time around 7,500 miles or so than alerting you if you are using conventional and at 3,000 miles?

Type of filters if using synthetic for longer mileage between oil changes?

Thanks

use your owners manual for miles between oil changes. the 3,000 oil change is history and a waste of money.. don't know if your car comes with synthetic or not. check with service department on service bulletins pertaining to synthetic oils…
my 08 came with synthetic in the transmission and rear end… after the first 10,000 miles, it only sees synthetic engine oil.
the 32 valve will only see synthetic…
for some reason, the ranger engine spits synthetic out. the gear boxes use synthetic oils..
i use wix, hastings or fleet guard filters in my vehicles..

If the manual calls for conventional oil you can change it to synthetic oil its been proven that changing oil doesn't hurt anything. With using synthetic oil you can drive for roughly 7-800K's before changing oil again. Now if the manual calls for 5w30 then use 5w30, they designed the engine by using the 5w30 however you can use 5w20, it just doesn't do the job correctly as it should.

I put Mobile 1 5w-20 full synthetic in my 2011. Had a ford approval stamp right on the bottle that matches the ford requirements listed in the owners manual.

Default 2011 Ford Fusion oil changes

I have done three oil changes on my 2011 Fusion SE that has the small 4-cylinder motor and got the recommended 5000 miles between changes. I have bought the Ford Motorcraft 5W20 semi-synthetic and also tried Valvoline conventional 5W20 with no difference seen. I currently have Castrol GTX 5W20 semi-synthetic in, and it was the best deal (price was around $16 for a 5-quart bottle) for the 5-quart container at the big-box store that most people don't care for, I believe Sam Walton started these up in Arkansas a few years back. Anyway, I hope this helps with this discussion. With the onset of winter here in the Midwest, I think I'm noticing my fuel economy suffering a bit, I recorded 29.2 mpg on the last fill-up.
