Cool Transmission might be loose? Any ideas?

Hello. I derive a 2010 Mustang GT Premium with a completely rebuilt engine and a Hurst short throw shifter. My problem that occurs is that when I'm driving or when I'm parked and I shift into a gear, I can push on my shifter and it will move forward or back slightly. Sometimes it makes this weird stretching noise when I'm hard shifting into a gear. mainly up to third or down to second.
I'm possibly thinking that my shifter bracket might be loose along with my transmission. If anyone has any ideas on what it could be, please let me know so I have a better idea of what to tell a mechanic when I go and get it looked at. I just don't want to shell out 2 grand for a fix for this, when I'm eventually going to replace the transmission to a 6 speed regardless.

Thanks for your time.
