Default Ranger tailgate issue

I recently purchased a Ranger XLT. Almost immediately I noticed one of the tailgate straps longer than the other. When I brought this to the attention to the Service Mgr. he told me that this done on purpose as he inspected several other new models awaiting delivery and they all displayed.the same slack strap.

I find it odd that one strap is taught when the tailgate is down and the other is loose. Is this a common occurrence?

I would like to know the reason also.
One possible explanation might be ,,, if one breaks , there could be another to prevent a total drop of the tailgate.

Hanky, thanks for the response. so, it doesn't sound like this is something others are bothered by, and if you don't know whats occurring or whether this is common in the Ranger or other models maybe I shouldn't worry about it.

Thx for your reply.

I haven't run it that issue,, but it doesn't sound correct since the gate needs 'balanced' support so not to stress the gate structure/spot welds etc.
Running two different length support cables sounds like a build issue..

Well, I don't believe the dealer is correct either. However, id does not like the strap can be removed and tightened. Any thoughhhhh??

This is what I would do.

Remove both straps and verify they are both the same length.
If different ,switch them and see what you get. It wouldn't be the first time they used different lengths and they were mixed up on installation.

Please let us know if you do this and what result you get, thanks.

Hanky, called another local dealer and he had me bring in the truck. he said he hadn't seen the issue before either. he has ordered to new straps and i am now awaiting them to be delivered and replaced. END
