2001 ford taurus.
I wanted to inflate a tire, so I used an electric tire pump on the cigarette outlet. ( mistake ) ... 3 mins later the cigarette outlet was dead. Something has caused this outlet to have no voltage. I pulled the plug off the bad cigarette outlet, checked with a meter, and it has no voltage. Funny thing is, the 12v outlet is OK/working.
Are they both not fused by fuse #13? So if the 12v outlet is OK, but cigarette outlet is bad, and they use the same fuse.. WTF??? Where, along the line could the cigarette outlet be bad? Another fuse? Different fuse??? ( the 12v outlet is on all the time, but I cant remember if the cigarette outlet was "switched" )
I just want my cigarette outlet to work! AAAHHH!!!!!
On a side note, which curcuit would be good to tap into for a dash cam? I want it switched.
Thoughts??? Kerry
Without a wiring diagram available , this is what I would suggest,
You have a voltmeter, not that difficult to do, check every fuse for voltage on both sides of the each fuse. Lighters usually use fuse of 20 amps so you probably could skip the lower rated fuses ,,,unless,,,,,,,,,,someone put the wrong size fuse in the place and anything is possible. So , just check them all including those that only get power when the key is on.. If you find nothing open , then I would start tracing back on that wire to where it originates and check for power there.
What year taurus do you have?
Which outlet is not working? I believe there is one on the dash, one in the center console and one on the rear of the center console.
