sparks and smoke

My 2002 Ford Taurus Flex fuel started smoking this morning,it seems to be coming on the side of the engine where the belts are, down at the bottom of the belts you can see some sparks , what could this be

Sounds like the harmonic balancer pulley is starting to come apart. There is a rubber insert in it and they will come apart allowing the pulley to come apart.

Sounds like that to me as well...the rubber insert holds the bearings in place, allowing the pulley to turn freely on its spindle...A friend had this problem on his Ranger...
