Im trying to help one of my friends out. He has a 97 Taurus with about 130K miles on it. Last week he was driving down the freeway when he lost all forward push. He pulled over and noticed that he lost all his gears. I put my snapon scanner on it and got the code P1705 on it. We replaced the transmission range sensor hoping that will fix the problem to no avail. Since it was a sudden problem, not a gradual problem im assuming a simple transmission filter change will not help matters. Anyone in the field can offer me any advice? Thanks.

 

Sounds like a internal problem. May be the pump.

 

A good tranny shop or garage may be able to tell you what your friend needs to fix his tranny. Sounds like a tranny failure to me.
