Default 04 f150 making sound like tire blown

Hello,

Im new to the forums here. I have an 04 f150 just bought it a few months ago and it appears to have been taken care of previously. So to get right to the problem. I was driving down the highway this weekend going about 55 or so and slowed down to avoid someone getting off an exit and my truck started making a sound that I can only describe as a blown tire, that's what I thought had happened except that I did not loose any control of the vehicle. I slowed down and stopped on the shoulder of the road, the sound stopped, and got out. I preceded to walk around the truck, no flat tire, nothing hanging from the underside, nothing leaking, everything seemed normal. So I preceded to the next exit and got off and did a more through look a the gas station, couldn't find anything so preceded as normal. Fast forward to this morning heading to work, only going about 25 or less literally only 2 blocks from home and same sound, stop, sound goes away. When this sound happens there is nothing different lit up on the panel, no loss of steering, power. it has me stumped, but im not a mechanics by any means. Im sorry to be long winded, but if anyone has any ideas what this may be id be very appreciatative. thanks JB

Hi JB, welcome to the site.
Where does the sound seem to be right front, left rear ? Does it sound like it is directly under the middle of the vehicle? Can you change the sound by lightly applying the brake?
Can you do a physical check of the wheel nuts to make sure none are loose ?

Hanky,
thanks for the reply. I cant really pin point where the sound comes from, but I would guess maybe the front driver side or maybe the front center. The sound slows down as I apply the brakes and stops when I come to a stop. I have not checked the lugs but I will. thanks again JB

Is this a loud sound, almost like a growling or grinding? I'd probably check wheel/hub bearing on the affected side/wheel.

I was driving the other day and noticed the same exact noise. I am baffled as to where it could be coming from. Anybody have a clue?
