Question 4r70W loses 3rd and 4th after driving short distances

Hi all,

I have a 2004 Ford Expedition with the 4r70W and it has a rebuilt transmission and motor in it. I have driven it about 15,000 miles since the rebuilds. It has recently began to have issues with 3rd and 4th gear. I will drive around town and after stopping and starting a few times it will try to shift to 3rd from 2nd and it will free wheel and not shift. I have figured out that either I have to be in 2nd manual or turn hit the O/D off button then it will drive in second and shift from 1st and 2nd to make it home.

Anyway I am looking for advice on what to do to fix this. I have already replaced the shift solenoids and the plastic "wiring harness" that is under the valvebody.

Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Edit: This happens sometimes after the vehicle has been driven for a while. If I set out on a longer drive it will drive fine as long as it does not shift down to 3rd from 4th or 4th to 2nd pulling a hill.

It sounds like there is a problem within the valve body of the trans.

Did you consider having the vehicle checked for any trans codes?

I have read all the codes and I keep getting a Shift Solenoid B code. That is the only code at the moment. Any ideas on what to do to test the Valvebody? I have change the fluid 3 times while changing parts. The EPC is the only electrical item inside the trans that hasn't been replaced.
