Default 78 ford f250 running rough.

Just as a warning I am NOT mechanically inclined at all and know almost nothing about trucks, but here's my problem.

So I have a 78 ford f250 ranger lariat that was running good until it suddenly started to die on me. At low speeds it runs extreamly rough, wile parked idles down and tries to die then idles back up and constantly goes up and down.I did adjust the carb a little with almost no improvment. I haven't check the fuel filter yet but I did change out the spark plugs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A good thing to check would be for any vacuum leaks with cracked hoses.
If the carb is all still original , unleaded gas used to cause the needle that controls the float level to swell and starved the engine for fuel due to a low float level. What engine is in the vehicle and could you maybe tell us if the carburetor has one, two or four air barrels ? Maybe a guess?

If it has been running alright up to now, that would kinda leave out the float problem, for now.
If you just recently purchased fuel and the problem started shortly afterward, you could have received some water in the fuel and your thoughts regarding the fuel filter could be the answer. If you want to,try adding some dry-gas to the tank and see if that makes any difference.
If adjusting the mixture screws doesn't change idle much , I would suspect a fuel problem.

Sorry buy what is dry-gas. Do you mean fresh gas to be sure there is no water in it or is there an actual product called dry-gas. Sorry I know nothing about this stuff. And it did start doing this on a rainy day. But it gas been siting about 2 weeks prior to that.

Different parts of the country have different names for a fuel system additive that is supposed to allow water to pass through a filter and get burned. Some of the names were Seafoam, Heet, Dry Gas etc.
Sometimes a little moisture will get under the dist cap and cause rough running.
