Default Escape second gen rear power point.

Hello people! I have a mppt charge controller connected to two 10w panels in my sunroof, I've made an untinted lexan sunroof using a junkyard sunroof I smashed out cutting the lexan to size and bolting it to the frame.. works well.

Currently I've spliced into the wiring for the rear power point cigarrette lighter socket and connected that to the batt terminals on the charge controller... can anyone confirm for me that the rear power point has no diode that would block the input power I'm feeding into those wires to the battery?

You might be playing with a future problem.

What year is your vehicle?
When we tap into OTHER circuits we can open a can of worms.

Important to know the year because charging systems on late model vehicles can develop problems that were never a concern with older vehicles.

Many times a quick fix will work for a while then when the system has had enough, it rebels and we forgot what we did weeks ago and now we think it is something completely unrelated. There just are some things you cannot get away with on today's vehicles . Fords in particular do not like add ons.

We could be dealing with voltage spikes and no provision to control them and they can raise heck with the vehicle's electronics.

battery trickle chargers are regularly plugged into the front charging cig lighter socket, the charge controller outputs safe levels for the agm battery I have, at the 20 or so watts I'm not too worried. The question was and remains does the REAR power ppowt socket have a diode preventing back feeding. I will have to get my meter out and check continuity between the positive rear power point wire, and the battery ... hopefully the relays if there is one (I dont think there is as it's always powered) and fuse dont get in the way
