I'm in the process of taxing my front right and left axles out for maintenance. I am leaking from my front differential on the front passenger side right where the axle goes into the differential.
Any ideas on what seal it could be, and can seals be changed on the differential without dropping it from the truck?
You didn't provide the year or model and some can come with problems.
You do not need to remove the differential, but you will need to remove the differential cover to get at the "C" clip that hold the axle in the side gear. Good move to read up on what is involved so you don't get into a tight spot and involve a lot of extra work and $$.
I've hit a pretty big roadblock at this point. I was able to fully remove the divers side without much issue (well needed to drill out a few bolts). The passenger side, however, has the spindle nut on soo tight that I can't seem to get it off. Tried for about half a day. I have the special tool that has 4 prongs that poke into the spanner nut. Problem is that it's on there tight and I can't grip it. The tool falls off if I apply too much force and it seems to be stuck pretty badly.
I'm thinking about taking a torque wrench to it since I'd be able to push in and maybe grip it better. Anyone run into an issue like this. Right now it's sitting on a lift, and I can't get my passenger side hub off because of this nut.
I'm adding a picture of what I'm looking at. It's the thing around the spindle that has the 4 notches (only 3 are visible in the picture).
