My 2006 Frrestyle Ltd ABS light stays on so I went to Auto Zone for a computer scan. The guy came up with bad a right rear wheel ABS sensor. I wanted to save some bucks and asked if it was something I can do myself. He said it should not be a problem so I ordered the part.
Can someone give the step-by-step directions for replacing the sensor? Thanks

Here are the instructions from Ford.



Removal and Installation

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
Remove the 2 wheel speed sensor harness retainers.
Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt.
To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
Remove the wheel speed sensor.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

 

Ford's instructions are all well and nice, but has anyone ever had any success removing a Wheel Speed Sensor without destroying it?

I'm trying to remove the Right Front CV Axle for access to the CVT Transfer Gear Bearing Cover and the sensor is stuck in the Aluminum Knuckle due to corrosion. It's soaking in PB Blaster now. The last time, I simply destroyed the sensors on the rear and that cost $160.00. I'm trying to troubleshoot a GROWL and I suspect the bearing.
