Key Security - Changing PATS
Someone clearly has a copy of my Ford 2005 FreeStar key as we have continual problems with break ins, thefts and vandalism with no signs of forced entry.
I bought the FreeStar used and have two transponder keys and two keyless entry fobs.
The Freestar Owner's Manual explains how to change the codes for the keyless entry fobs, which I have done. So long as someone still has a copy of my key they can get in anyway.
Can I change the PATS key codes myself like I can change the fob codes? If so, how do I do it? It seems strange that you could change the fob code and not the key codes.
Do I have to go to a Ford Dealer and have them erase the current PAT codes and program a new code into the system and then change the key codes? Any way to reduce the cost of this? I am fairly mechanical.
Many thanks for your help!
