Unhappy Please Help!

I just purchased a 2007 Ford Five Hundred. Noticed once I hit 40mph there is a deep rumbling, but it goes quiet when I turn or veer to the left. Both the top and bottom motor mounts are broken (I just picked it up from the dealership where's it's been all week). They claimed the mounts had been replaced, but when I got home and popped the hood, I noticed that neither mount was replaced. It sat at their repair shop all week untouched. Anyway, could this be the reason for the rumbling or could it be something else like the CV joints? I plan on going back in on Tuesday morning and tearing them apart for lying about fixing my car and standing over them until they replace the mounts but I want to know every possible option as to what else could be wrong with it so that they don't try to pull the wool over my eyes again. I got the car up to 60mph and put it into nuetral to listen to the rumbling and it did not die down as the rpms lowered like I thought it would, but actually got quieter as the car slowed. Not sure if that's helpful, but also, the dealer claims they put a brand new transmission in the car this month. I don't know too much about cars, but any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, as I can't hear the noise, i can think of a few things to check. I haven't yet seen an axle or joint go out on one yet, but with broken motor mounts, it's a strong possibilty. One or two other things that jump to mind are the front wheel bearings (they come as a hub assembly), and they are pretty common to go out, even at fairly low milage (around 15k is when I saw my first case). Another common thing is the Power takeoff unit (PTU or PTO) that drives the rear wheels is it's a 4 wheel drive. It's easy to hear these on a lift with the car running. It shouldn't be too hard to diag. I'm surprised to hear about the repair shop; I hope you get better service!

Thank you so much! The more I've read, I'm pretty sure it's the wheel bearings, however the motor mounts still need to be replaced. I was just so amazed that the dealership thought I was too dumb to look under the hood to see if they replaced the motor mounts or not. Lol. The whole reason we asked to have the mounts replaced was when you had the hood up and put the car in reverse, you could see the motor twist. I understand there's supposed to be some movement, but it looked like the motor was going to jump out of the car! Lol. Granted it's not doing that anymore, but the motor mounts are still broken which could lead to worse problems later on down the road. Hopefully everything gets taken care of Tuesday, or else they're going to have one angry woman on their hands. Thank you again!

Did the replacement of the Motor Mounts solve your issue or was it the wheel bearings?
