I have a 93 Mercury Tracer 1.9 and just replaced Everything with the head. New head,gasket,bolts etc,I mean everything. When it had the Head gasket problem there was quite a bit of oil that made it into the exhaust. I now get a puff of blue smoke only at start up and when the car is in motion,usually at first gear take off from stop lights etc. It seems to do this mostly when it is warmer but doesn't do this in the colder months. I have already put 10 thousand miles on it since the repair. I added Lucas Oil to see if that would do anything.
The valve guide seals have been replaced too. Could it be that one of the valve guide seals went bad?
Or could i have and additional thing to look at? I changed the PCV valve ! Have changed the oil!

 

You may be able to get some idea of the location of the problem by examining the spark plugs. If it is only one cyl with the problem that plug might have accumulated deposits on it. If more than 1 plug has unusual accumulation additional testing might be required. It could be valve seals, how many miles are on the clock?

 

First be sure you using the proper weight oil, if not change it and the filter. If that doesn't improve the situation, change brands of oil. Heck, you never know. I have had several times over the years had vehicles that for some strange reason certain brands oil would not stay in the motor

Also: while the poster fixed the head and head gasket no one knows how good or bad the piston rings and cylinder walls are. Maybe the the rings are caked up with deposits and have trouble sealing. The Lucas Oil Fuel treatment might help freeing up the rings.
