I'm looking at two F150s and need some help to determine which one I should go with. I'm upgrading from a 2000 4cylinder Ranger, so anything should be an upgrade. Here are the two trucks.

2009 4.6 2V V8 F150, 77,000k miles. Two owner good carfax. $10.5k
2012 5.0 V8 F150, 160,000k miles. One owner, great carfax. $9k

I like the power (towing power) and newness of the 2012, but afraid the mileage is too much. Anyone know what these engines are good to?

Both good power plants,, I'd go for the lower mileage thou. depending on what i saw. Any service docs available on either of them? And of course grind on them prices.. Carfax only shows what's reported, not always what's been done to them. Ford can run an Oasis Report (no cost) off the VINs and will show anything done under warranty/campaign.. Any doubts, have them checked out. Have any images?

 

As Hayapower said, take that Carfax report with a grain of salt as it's far from being trustworthy. Several years back our low mileage PT Cruiser was rear-ended causing nearly $10k in damages. I should've fought to have it totaled as it was never the same. Anyway, Carfax NEVER showed anything as far as accidents! I've never heard of a Ford Oasis Report but I'll be checking into that for my own use.
I still have a 07 Sport Trac 4.6l 3v with 203k miles and still running strong with no leaks and no oil loss but it was maintained by Ford by the previous owner.
