i was thinking of changing my car now my wife is driving i don't really need this one anymore but i don't really want to loose the fuel consumption and the proformance of the car anyone have any suggestions on what i should get?

 

Have you considered something like renting a vehicle(s) for a day or more ? A test drive at a dealership is fine , but you don't really get to know what the vehicle is like to drive for a period of time that way. This can cost a few bucks to do , but I think you would get a better idea of how the vehicle performs under different circumstances. If you purchase a newer vehicle and are not happy with it , what is the cost there?

 

Hanky, as usual, makes a good point. But before you run to the rental store and check out that Aston Martin DB for a few days you may want to narrow down your list to a maybe 3 or 4 models. You are in the UK I presume, and I am in the US I know. That means you have a much different array of models to choose from and that means I can't give you a short list.
I would do a little on line searching using UK based car websites. One of them is carsurvey.org. Then when you have cut down your list to 5 models go an sample test rides. Pick the one you liked the best for renting a few days.
