The only way to be sure is to use the process of elimination. And for a grand it would be a good idea to open the lines and check before condemning the tank.

Instead of getting into a long explanation try to google the following.
" purge fuel vapor valve"

And now the check engine light is on. Ugh. Haven't had the code pulled yet...

Charcoal canister was the culprit.
