Default Advice needed...

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and was hoping to get some advice on a fault with a 1996 Ford Econoline 7.5 V8 I am about to purchase. The problem is, on Idle the motor ticks over nicely, but when I blip the throttle it hesitates. It's not quite a misfire, but similar. any thoughts? The owner told it was the fuel pump which he said he changed, but the problem is still there, now he says it's the fuel filter... I think he's guessing. My guess is, it could be the fuel pressure valve? any thoughts would be appreciated. The vehicle has 125,000kms on the clock and is in pristine condition, it almost has that new car feel to it when driven.

Also if anyone could tell me what else I should check for, as I'm going for a second round of inspection this week before I hand over my money.

One last thing, through online research I can't seem to find an accurate valuation for this vehicle. Can anyone tell me they're worth, given the current mileage and condition (which is pristine)

Thanks in advance.

There really isn't much benefit to be gained by three or more people guessing, so suggest you get or verify the fuel pressure in the system. At least you would know where you stand.

It would also be a good idea to have the system undergo a health check. This would reveal if there were any problems that are not severe enough to produce a check engine light.and yet affect performance. Capable scan tool should help here.

Thanks very much for your feedback. I actually went again yesterday for a 2nd inspection. I took it for a long test drive and could find no fault with it whilst it's in gear and on the move. It's firing on all 8 and very responsive (no misfires, no hesitation, nothing), it's only when I try to pick the revs up on Idle it starts missing.

But I will take your advice and get the health check done and introduce the capable scan tool into the mix. Thanks again.

A sudden introduction of air when opening the throttle may be too lean for the system to catch up with fuel if there is a vacuum leak.

Can you get us some fuel trim info?
Scan tool would be required to get that info.

It sounds like you have hit the nail on the head! I did a quick google search to learn more, and it sounds as if a vacuum leak could well be the culprit. As of tomorrow, I will start contacting garages to see who has this Scan Tool to get the fuel trim info. This might be easier said than done, given my current location (Uzbekistan, Central Asia), we shall see.

I'll keep you updated. Thanks once again, you've been really helpful )

Hi there, I had a diagnostic center check the engine hesitation problem I'm having and they told me it's the fuel pump. Apparently, it's had an inline (cheap) replacement one fitted, which is probably not delivering the correct amount of fuel needed. For starters, I'm going to change the pump and filter, and go from there. I found this one on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fuel-Pu...8AAOSwW0VftxoQ

Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
