Default Interior Clicking When Turning Key - 2010 Escape

Greetings:

Yesterday my girlfriend's 2010 Escape began making a relatively loud clicking sound which sounds like it's coming from the dashboard/steering column area. The clicking is not rapid, but slow, and only clicks about 3 times while the motor is turning over. Some backstory: She was told the battery needed replacing last Friday. In the meantime (Wednesday) her car began to make this clicking sound. Today (Thursday) she had the battery replaced and the problem persists.

The car cranks right up with no issue. The noise is most prominent inside the car, loud enough to lead me to believe that it is not the starter. I have only heard it on a video at this point if that tells you anything about the noise coming from the interior. Alternator is fine.

I hope someone here has experience with this issue as I'd like to be able to grab a part to replace before the weekend when I can hear it in person. I hope this is enough info to begin narrowing down, and I can get the video posted if need be. Thanks in advance.

Hey! Did you ever figure out what the issue was? My wife’s 2010 escape is having the exact same issue as of this week. Identical to how you described. Hoping it’s nothing significant.

Could you clarify something for us?
When you state it clicks when the "Motor is turning over" do you mean when you are attempting to start the engine and you hear the clicking BEFORE the engine starts running or something else?
I ask this because if someone diagnosed the problem as a ,possible battery problem, when it could be an electrical cable or connection problem.
The cables and /or connections have been on there for at least 9 years and if the vehicle stays outside, that could have some influence on where the problem might reside.

Did you ever figure out what was causing the clicking sound? Having the same issue on my mom's 2010 Escape.
