98 4.6l 4×4 Expedition no start
I was driving down the road one day and when I came to a Red light it just shut off, so I got it off the road and tried to get it to start back up but nothing. Figured typical Ford fuel pump issue so I had it towed home and checked the fuel rail and it had no pressure. Dropped the tank and changed the pump and filter and put everything back together, I had the negative battery wire off and as soon as I touched it and cranked it up it ran for about 10 seconds and then died so I checked for fuel pressure and it had none, then I checked for spark and it didn't have any so I figured I might have blown the crank sensor. Well replaced that also and still have neither. I'm thinking it might be the Pat's system but when I got the cluster out there's no light in it and Ford can't get it anymore. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
You could be right thinking a fuel supply problem., but don't forget it is controlled by the electrical system.
Before replacing anything, we try to verify the fuel pump gets it's instructions from the vehicle computer that needs inputs to tell it fuel is needed.
We always verify power and ground are available to the fuel pump module.before jumping to possible false conclusions.
It is no fun dropping a fuel tank, especially if half full of fuel..
If we verify power and ground are available at the tank assy, and the pump doesn't operate, then we have good reason to lower the tank and check the pump module..
Sometimes we create problems by taking things apart when it was not necessary..
When possible , try to learn how the system is supposed to work to make your diagnosis accurate .
When the key is first turned on , the fuel pump runs for 1-2 seconds , does it ?
