Usually an overfuel condition will get the converter to the glowing point. Did you get a chance to check the fuel pressure regulator for gasoline in the vacuum line at the regulator?

 

I just had a similar problem with my cats glowing (yes, there are two on my truck for some weird reason). My problem was caused by one or more cylinders not firing correctly and dumping unspent fuel into my cats, where the fuel was heated sufficiently to burn and burned out the cats. Melted my entire exhaust system.

 

Just last week there was a guy who burned up his cats because the distributor was loose and lost timing.

 

i believe its clogged and what caused the egr to go bad
