2012 5.0 V8 Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils
Hey, first post. Engine light went on. Got codes read at Auto Zone and a few cylinders are misfiring. I found cheap plugs and ignition coils online (maybe $200 - can't remember) and replaced them myself. Totally failed. Took truck to a shop and they quoted me $1100 for the tune up. I can't believe this! It's absurd.
The guy said the coils are $619 and we have to use OEM parts because cheaper stuff won't work with this super special engine. I went directly to the Ford parts official website and they really cost $490. Also, I found spark plugs for the Coyote engine on the site for $50 (shop guy quoted me $120 I think), but it says they are for a Mustang. I can't find any plugs on the site for my F-150. Are they compatible?
I am angry at Ford for making a tune up cost so much.
Do I really need to use official Ford (Motorcraft) parts? Any suggestions to get this done? I don't have money. If I get official parts, should I still have a professional install them? Is it really that hard? I didn't have any problems when I tuned up a Silverado I used to have.

In your owner's manual, it should state which # plug your vehicle uses.
From that info you should be able to order those exact spec plugs. We all are trying to save where we can, but there are some places we can save more than others.
MosT techs have learned the hard way , ,
IT PAYS TO STAY WITH OEM PARTS
