Please help
Okay I used to be a Chevy guy but I fell in love with this Ford F-150 in line 6. I bought it to all things and I'm currently about $8,000 into it and it's still is quitting on me after it runs for a while. And then after it cools down it runs again. I've had it at the shop doesn't seem like the Mr tire knows what they're doing and I don't know anyone I can trust around this place. So I looked online to see how to replace the manual fuel pump. My motor does not have a coil behind the fuel pump. Now to give some detail it has brand new sending units and the tanks were supposedly flushed even though I found rust finite particles that were caught in the inline fuel filter. I can't rely on this truck after $8,000 and I am very upset about it. I am not ignorant to mechanical work and everything under the truck looks good. It seems as though is just sucking air for the mechanical pump stuff working for a while. It's the 86 with the ERG minimum emission system on it. I don't know if anyone can help me but I don't understand if it makes a difference that there's no coil behind the fuel pump anymore. I don't know much about Fords so if anyone here can help I would be greatly appreciated.
Just replacing parts can get expensive and disappointing and it is better to proceed with a diagnostic procedure.
First we need to determine if it is a fuel supply problem or an ignition problem.
Sometimes it helps to know EXACTLY how the engine shuts down, which means does it begin to die and eventually shut down or does it stop just as if you shut the key off.
That info can many times lead us in a good direction. Some conditions will place a code in the vehicle computer, but not all. The codes only provide direction and do NOT tell us which part may be defective. The function most times MUST be verified before possibly replacing a good part. They haven't come up with that tool yet..
