still trying 92 F150
I believe greasemark has just about said it all !
By just about, well, I too have had some college and have been in this field many moons and have learned much from just exchanging ideas and methods.
There is something about this field that holds the interest and , yes love for it, that is not always available from a lot of other vocations.
When you complete a difficult repair you not only get immediate satisfaction, but you can hear, see and feel the great result of your efforts. That may be why we try so hard to share that with others.

Absolutely Hanky. I find that our minds seem to work alike, and as I said, you're no slouch. That's not hero worship, but deep respect for someone thats been in the trenches and has the wounds to prove it!
You two have a hell of whole lot more experience than I do on this fuel injection crap. The reason I hate it is 'cause when it goes bad it doesn't get easy or any cheaper to fix.
It turns out that I can't get rid of the truck and, I'll have to fix the friggin' thing. The last time it started it sounded as though the timing was really slow or late and it missed very badly, like it was only hitting on half the pistons which makes me wonder if the plennums from a 5.8 and a 5.0 can be interchanged and if they can what is the firing order for the 302?

There is a pin on the cam and a key slot on the crank shaft they were both lined up key on top and pin on bottom so it is in time between crank and cam. I'm suspecting some one may have done a motor swap before I got it and it wouldn't surprise me any if that were the case. they both look so much alike that I can't tell the difference between the two engines and I not going to look for any casting numbers to find out. The firing order for the 5.8 is 13726548 and the firing order for the 302 is different that and I ain't gonna take it all back down and try again.
Mr. Floyd,
Before you get involved in switching anything else and spending anymore $ could you please see if you can either remove the O2 sensor or separate the exhaust BEFORE the converter. Have to rule out a plugged exhaust. OK ?
Also,if the vehicle ran and ran well before now, there would be no reason to get involved in whether it's a 5.0 or 5.8 set up.
Something changed and usually we follow a certain path to determine what changed. There are still questions that need to be answered correctly such as, do you really have the correct fuel pressure, and from what I have been able to gather this truck has dual tanks and we don't even know if the fuel pumps are working , for which tank, if the tank has gas in it . Just because some fuel squirts out at the pressure tap MEANS NOTHING !
So as you can see there are a lot of unanswered questions that have to be answered. Try to stay focused on the path we suggest because this is nothing new to us and this is what any good shop will have to do anyway.
In answer to your question , the firing order for a 5.0 (302) is ,1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8.
OH OH, THE LIGHT JUST CAME ON. Did you change the plugs and wires? I don't know if you have the firing order going in the right direction. Back to square 2.

I tried that firing order for the 5.0 and it didn't help so I know now that it is a 5.8. I use the rear tank most of the time. the only time I changed the plugs was when I first got it then when it went wrong I checked them out and took them out cleaned and reset the gap none of them were bad or full of carbon or oil while I was at it I cleaned the cap rotor and made sure that my wires were in good shape. I know this problem is so damn simple to fix I just keep overlooking it somehow. there isn't any way to take the 02 sensor out or remove the manafolds for fear of twisting the bolts off in the engine. my brother was just here and he said that He could smell raw fuel like it was flooded with each attempt to start it. it fires in counter clockwise direction
