Hello all, have this ongoing problem with my 2006 Ford Five hundred. It’s happened a few times in the last month or so and then today it went into its fits and has never came out of it. So it is virtually undrivable at this point. So what it is doing is a complete loss of power and will only rev. It may be up to 1500 RPMs. The wrench warning light comes on on the left side of the dashboard. I tried putting it in gear to see what happens and it is very little to no power at all. I have a very basic code reader and I will try to attach what it reads. What I’m trying to find out is how I go about fixing this. Is this part of the actual throttle body? Or a component to the throttle body? Any ideas? I would sure greatly appreciate it.
There is a good chance the TPS is failing. There is a second generation sensor that is larger and more reliable. If you get it from Ford you will receive the latest version and you will be able to see the difference. Be smart and update/replace both.
Just a little bit ago, I replaced the entire throttle body. Before I replaced it, I started it, and it still ran real rough with no real power to it and of course, the warning light on the dash came on. After I replaced it, it started up really easy and idled good. I watched a YouTube video that told me to let it idle for a while. After that, I took it down the road away and back and on the way back it acted up again and the wrench light came on the dashboard. By the time I got home, it was at a good idle again. Would a mass airflow sensor have anything to do with this as well?
