Cam Shaft Timing Mark?
My son's 96 Ranger with 2.3 broke the timing belt on the highway. After replacement the truck will not start. While we were in there I noted that there are two marks on the cam pulley, a diamond and an arrow. We used the diamond because someone had put a white mark on the gear there. Is this correct. We checked for TDC by watching the exhaust valve cycle up and then then watched for the piston to come back up again. Also, does the second drive pulley do anything other than drive the oil pump? I figured that this truck does not have a distributor, so there should be no other connection. And lastly, could there still be bent valves even though this is supposed to be a "non-interference" motor? Thanks.
