Default speed sensor

I have a 2000 ranger stepside, check engine lite and abs lite are lit up. I have no speedo or odometer working.checked trouble codes and it says speed sensor is bad, changed speed sensor in the rear end, cleared codes, but engine lite and abs lite still on and still no speedo or odometer working. anyone have an idea on how to repair this problem.

Is there also a speed sensor in the transmission ? Are you still getting the same check engine code? What is the Code ? And what ABS code are you getting ?

I believe that code kinda says a speed sensor malfunction which usually means the info the PCM is receiving is not rational. Since you don't have an ABS on the vehicle the sensor may be responsible for the signal for the speedometer to work. Some speed sensor circuits also have other sensors on the same circuit. I don't know if this is the problem with your vehicle, but if you have the means , check the 5 volt reference circuit that originates from the computer and supplies some other sensors in that circuit. If it is low one of the sensors in the circuit could be shorted. That could also be the reason for the CE lite. Do you want to get into that possibility?

Thanks for the help, but I think I'll leave the problem up to my mechanic to fix.
