It is after all an "anti-theft" system. Can be a PIA to troubleshoot at times.
I was wondering because I finally got a PCM already programmed but still needs to be sync'd with the PATS system. If it only disabled the fuel supply but allowed the starter to turn I figured I could at least see if I had spark, even if it wont start. But alas, as it turns out mine is one of the ones that kills the starter too. I'll be sending the car to my nearby Ford Dealership to have them hook up the tool and convince my PCM and PATS module to talk to each other.
Another $120.00 shot.
Let's hope this does it..... there doesn't seem to be anything else left.

Bill one of those shops has the capability to use a scan tool that will tell them what it is . Hopefully you get a great person that can figure this one out .

thing is, the scan tool can only pull the codes from the PCm ( at least thats what I understand ) and with the PCM being replaced ( the old one gave up no codes when scanned ) there won't be any codes until it runs.

I am not talking about a cheap scan tool, If the dealer has one of the high end Mac tool ones it will allow you to see if certain items are getting the proper current they need . I was amazed at my brothers tool. When put in self test his ruled it to two things on a 98 Dodge 1500, it was a cam sensor or crank sensor. When I replaced the cam sensor it fired right up. So ,I know first hand if you get the right tech. He or she can do it . Some of these high end scan tools do more then just look for codes that are sent to the pcm .

OK everybody the PCM I put in did the trick. I was prepared to have this towed to the dealer and pay dealer prices to have my PCM mated to my PATS module when someone told me about a mobile locksmith and diagnostics guy who may have the equipment to handle the job. I called him and although his base is nearly 100 miles away, he just happened to have a call at a garage near me the next day. He came to my house and programmed my new key, programmed the PCM, linked it to the PATS and started my car for the first time in 7 weeks. I am so glad to have this thing running again. He did it for half what the dealer wanted and I didn't have to tow my car ( His fee was $75.00) It will be so nice to drive my own car to work tomorrow. So, it looks like the PCM was the primary culprit.

Hanky, Schroensr,
Thanks so much for all your input and advice. It's nice to know there are people out there willing to help out. Car still needs some work, but at least it runs now. The original O2 sensor codes are popping up so I still need to change those but again....IT RUNS!!

thanks again guys.

Before doing anything, do you think you could post the codes and maybe give us a chance to spend some of your money ? (Just kidding) As you know just because you get an O2 sensor code doesn't necessarily mean the sensors themselves are the problem.
