If you removed that inner retaining ring from the old and the new rotors and compared the dimensions , you just might get your answer.

Just replaced the rotors with bearings on a buddy’s 05 f150 tonight. Ive done several and never had this problem. New spindle nut and raybestos rotor/bearings from RockAuto. Bearings got smoking hot after a few miles.. actually melted the nylon out of the lock nut.. what did you end up doing? Send them back?? Did you get it fixed? I see someone mentioned a flaw with these rotors? Any link to that thread? Thanks

These rotors (That is the way the auto manufacturer wanted them), are constructed that when the correct torque is applied the preset bearing preload will be obtained..

This particular manufactured brand of rotors has a fault that was possibly not inspected and found and they were allowed to get out into the market. If one does not have any idea of the internal construction, can only go by what they think is right by purchasing a well known brand, expecting them to perform as in the past, but they cannot because there is a manufacturing defect, which we did not expect.

Are you saying you are aware of a fault/design issue with this particular rotor? I emailed them and told them about the issue and they said go ahead and drive with it and they would send a new one, so I did and after no more than 20 miles, one of the rotors completely failed and completely disintegrated the bearing.

The same thing happened to me after a few miles. I felt a lot of vibration so I pulled over into a parking lot and jacked the truck up and after I took the tire off, I could see black ooze all around the spindle. Ended up being cooked grease that came out of the bearing, the nylon inside of the nut was cooked and melted away. And it took a good amount of effort to get the rotor off, but when I did pieces of the bearing fell to the ground, so I had to go to the store and buy a new one I could not wait for the replacement otherwise I would’ve been stranded for a week. The other rotor has been completely fine without any issues so I guess it was a manufacturing defect.

I had a similar case and it was the bearing pressed badly at the factory, it protruded a little too much and the washer / nut came to force on it. I exchanged the complete hub and no more worries afterwards. Also check if the spacer or washer is present and in the correct direction.
