I have a 2004 Ford F-150 with a 4.6 l when driving after the engine gets to operating temperature it's sputters misfires I lose all power and it dies now if I pull off to the side of the road turn the key off and start it back up and I'll run fine for about a mile and then it'll butter misfire and eventually die we replaced the coil packs put a new fuel pump on there as well as a filter and it does the same thing The codes say that it's running lean on bank two I'm just wondering if anybody can help with this problem I am stumped?
A good scan tool would come in handy at this time to actually observe the functioning of the oxygen sensor for bank 2 (driver's side).. Without this tool, might be a good move to replace the oxygen sensor for that bank.
How do you know you got a misfire?
Symptoms like yours first thing you check is MAF, not coil pack and not fuel pump.
1) Next time it stalls again pull your truck over and pop the hood and key out
2) Locate the MAF's electrical connector and unplug it, don't need to disconnect battery ground cable. When MAF is present but not connected, default fuel trim ratio will be used.
3) Key in, restart and drive
You should get rough idling still, but your engine shouldn't stall again and you should be able to continue your trip. If that's the case, more than likely a bad MAF or its bad/dirty wiring.
