92 E-350 Transmission Issues
Hi - New Memeber with a 92 E-350 with a E4OD transmssion and 172,000 miles.
A couple of years ago my van started to jump out of OD and then immediately jump back in OD at highway speed. Just did it once in a while. Took it in to a reputable transmission shop, and they rebuilt the tranny (about 160 K miles). But the problem never really went away, and it is getting worse. Runs fine for periods of time, then it starts jumping out of OD and then jumps back in. Happens very quickly. Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it keeps doing it. Very, very disturbing when it happens.
Took it to a shop last month, and they replaced speed sensor on top of the differential. Didn't make any difference. They think next thing to do is the replace the driver console panel. Why do they want to do that? Because over the last couple of years from time to time the speedometer and the odometer will suddenly start outputting kilometers. Then 6-12 months later it starts reading MILES. There isn't any switch on the 1992s that allows the driver to do that himself. It just does it on its own. So they think this is the next best thing to do.
I'm open to ANY suggestions. It has been a great van. Like to keep it. But this transmission thing has me baffled. - Tom
