Default Ford edge 2008 gas leaks

My edge only has 117000km its got hard shifting and lots of odd squeaking sounds on it coming form the front end and in 2016 i took it in to get the gas tank recall done, I believe all they did was clean the tank. Even tho there was nothing wrong with it at the time I got them to do it anyway, now 2 years later there is gas leaking from the TOP of the gas tank, when i got my camera up there it was all rusted out and bubbling. Is there anyway I get them back on them with this, they say they cant help me now and its a $3000 dollar fix, I cant afford another car or that 3000 dollars and I need it for kids and daily driving. My only other option is to accidentally throw a cigarette butt at it..

Try to find a gas tank at a junkie. I had the same issue with my 2007 but I was never notified of the recall. So I found a junk yard that had the tank, he was asking $85 for the tank. In the meantime my dad who has been a mechanic for 30+ years removed the old tank. The rust and corrosion are extensive. As he was working on my Edge, someone stopped into his garage and mentioned that there were recalls for the gas tanks. We took it to a dealer to finish the job, but that opened a huge can of worms. They wanted to tack on an additional $1500 for other parts. We picked up my Edge without the fuel pump hooked back up because the wire assembly to it was damaged. I have ordered the part by the number given to me from the dealership but it turned out to be wrong. I’m having a very difficult time finding the correct part. So basically, you can get the tank fairly cheap from a junkie but make sure you are prepared to replace rusted off bolts underneath and make sure your wiring to the pump is saved.

Can you tell us just what is wrong with the harness you pictured ?

What was damaged and is there some reason it cannot be repaired. The vehicle is more than 10 years old and dealers usually don't stock/ carry older vehicle parts.

The entire harness wasn't damaged was it? Depending on just what was damaged unless pins were broken ,you might be able to save the harness and repair only what was damaged. If you would like to provide the info , maybe we could offer some suggestions that might help to complete the job. .

There are times when any fuel pump is replaced , a new plug has to be installed ,,,,,,because a good part of the time good pumps get replaced when there is a poor electrical connection that was not checked and the fuel pump gets blamed. Again, depending on just what is damaged the "fix" may not be such a big deal.
What has happened here may or may not have had "mechanic/.dealership" help so that is why we need the entire story..
