Default FOB locking tailgate not working

I have a 2018 F250 6.7L that is equipped with door and tailgate locks. I bought the truck new and all the door and tailgate locks worked as they should. I only recently found out that the tailgate is not locking. Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions on what to try to restore the locking mechanism? There is no key option available at the tailgate.

It is 5 plus years old and maybe was never lubricated, don't know., but if you can get it open it might help if you sprayed a little WD40 penetrant into the mechanism and see if that helps..
Let us know if that worked, thanks.

The lock solenoid is a common fail point.

I took apart the tailgate and it is very clean and the latch works as it should. I checked and there is voltage coming in through the pin connector but that may just power the camera. I would expect to hear a click when i tried locking the tailgate.

Its behind the inner tailgate access panel attached with 8' screws.
Make sure to check the connector for switched/power distribution before condemning the old actuator solenoid.
