Before I can suggest anything, need some addl info.
When did this engine run last?
Does the vehicle have an anti-theft system on it?
Can you turn the engine by hand using one of the pulleys and belt?
Does the starter click when you turn the key to the start position?

Since you did not hear the starter click I would think the problem lies in the circuit for the starter solenoid. Look up a diagram in the Haynes manual and check every element of the starter circuit. You checked some already, but make sure to include the wires, wire harnesses, and ground connections.
I bet Hanky agrees with that approach.

If it fixes the problem,,,,,,,,,, of course, I agree ! Has something to do with hindsight being 20/20.
